Yes the US should have continued it’s mission to the moon even after the Apollo I disaster. Everyone knew that space travel was going to be dangerous and even though Apollo I never left Earth everyone knew the risks. If everyone gave up because something was dangerous then we would have never have had many things we have now like airplanes.

I think they should’ve continue there mission to the moon even after the Apollo disaster, because it may have been dangerous in all but i fill they could’ve found ways to make it better in maybe the second time it could have been successful.

Yea i do think that the U.S should have continued after what had happened. The astronauts knew what they were getting into and as long as there were people still willing to participate there should be no reason to not go through with it.

I think the U.S and N.A.S.A did the right thing by continuing the apollo project after the disaster because it would be a tribute too there hardwork and an huge accomplishment for the United States.

Yes and no because yea it was a big step that we took to improve dor the future and no because we were risking lives and that was something that didnt look so well but we can learn from the mistakes like the tragedy of apollo I we learned that it was too full of oxygen and that velcrow is highly flamable with inclosed oxygen which is why this should never occur for future testing.

    • Jenniffer B April 24, 2012 at 2:32 AM #

But dont u think they could learn from their previous mistake and fix the problems?

  5. Diana Olivas April 22, 2012 at 10:10 PM #

Yes, I think the US should have continued with the mission to the moon because other wise the deaths of the crew in Apollo I would have been for nothing if they just gave up. I agree with the astronaut, from the movie, that spoke while the mission was under investigation. He had said that the crew that died, would have wanted them to continue with their dream to walking on the moon.

  6. Pal W. April 23, 2012 at 4:10 AM #

Of course, i would continue after the disaster. You can’t just try once and quit. Try, try again, right? By the way a lot of money was put into this project. So, no choice to quit but only succeed. Not to mention president Kennedy promised the moon by the end of the decade. Continue, so the president could be a man of his word.

The Apollo 1 distaster was a bad accident that could have been prevntable but then thays how the program learned from their mistake. They knew that there could of been an accident but not here probably in space.Only knowing that this was just a bad accident that could of happenend to anyone. it is a good thing that they kept on going with the program and not ending, because during time we got far.

Yes I think the US should have continued with the mission to the moon because Everyone knew the space travel was dangerous they have three astronauts on a training mission, to much oxygen had been pumped into. It so sad that crew died i wanted him to contiued to moon.

    • Jenniffer B April 24, 2012 at 2:30 AM #

Exactly why not take the risk we take risk of some sort every day.

During the Apollo Disaster, I believe the US should have continued it’s mission to the moon.If this had not been continued, there would be nothing to work for; when goals are set, it is most likely that the goal must/will be accomplished. Continuing the mission to the moon has given our new generations more technology and has given us as American sthe opportunity to think outside the box; in the movie we watched, no one ever thought that such a thing would happen, but it did. There was a notice and understanding of everybody that a fire or any other event could occur in ari but not on grouds. Our space is full of many wonderful things that we may not know about, and it is our mission to know and find out what is in our surrounding.

i agree you cant get naything done in this world with out risks thats just a simple fact of life

  10. Kaleb M April 23, 2012 at 11:00 PM #

Yes, I think the United States should’ve continued it’s mission to the moon, just for the fact of how close they were prior to the disaster. They had come to far, just to quit now, when they had to follow that order from John F Kennedy and get to the moon by the end of the decade. They also had to beat the Russians in the space race, which they were doing with the past missions with Gemini and Mercury. It’s also important because of the many things that there is in space, that we don’t have on Earth, there’s vast amounts of species and scientific significance that cannot be left unnoticed.

  11. Marissa Venegas April 24, 2012 at 12:38 AM #

Even after the Apollo 1 disaster, I think that the US should have continued with the mission of getting to the moon. Yes they made a mistake by putting too much oxygen and testing in such a high pressured area, nut now they know where they miscalculated and they knowledge of how to improve. The astronauts would not have wanted to die in vein. Its good that they continued the mission or they wouldnt have achieved going to the moon.

  12. Jeff DeCoster April 24, 2012 at 1:44 AM #

If I was them, I would keep going because it’s a goal of JFK’s that he wanted to accomplish. It was brave of the men who did the next Apollo knowing why happened to the others.

  13. Jordana April 24, 2012 at 2:19 AM #

I feel like they made the right decision into keep on striving to go to the moon. It would be ridiculous not to, but if it were me I would have a little break after the disaster to change the way in how the tests and such were done. There would be no room for any simple oversight. Because of all the technical difficulties there seemed to have in regards to the disaster, I would realize that there would be room for more mistakes in the future. As that guy in the end of the video (I forgot his name) said, the only thing they really lacked was imagination; they assumed that their tests would work on Earth but never stopped to think if it would backfire on them. In the future, I would double and triple check that there would be no negligence and that whoever was working on the project would think in creative ways about anything that could possibly go wrong. After all, there would be no use continuing the mission to the moon if more people kept on dying.

  14. Jenniffer B April 24, 2012 at 2:28 AM #

I do think they should have the mission. Without risks how can you get anywhere in life. It takes a risk to reach success. There is larned without making a mistake to learn from. TheApollo I disasters was a mistake and a risk learn from that could better the nissuon to the moon.

    • Regine April 25, 2012 at 12:27 AM #

I agree that Apollo One was a mistake Nasa and North American learned from and it revealed the things they needed to fix in order to have a successful mission.

  15. Evelyn H. April 24, 2012 at 11:46 AM #

Yes, I do believe they should have continued their mission to the moon. Even though the Apollo One was such a horrible tragedy, going to the moon was their goal. Mistakes are bound to happen in such a huge experiment and you learn from your mistakes to avoid them in the next following tries. President Kennedy announced to America that we would make it to the moon before the decade was over, and Apollo got us there.

  16. Marissa Salas April 24, 2012 at 7:51 PM #

After the Apollo I disaster I think that they should have kept trying to reach their goal of making it to the moon. The men in the space craft were very brave and it would be considered an honor if they kept trying to make it to the moon for them. If they did not keep trying then all of the hard work would have been for nothing and the deaths of those men would have been a waste.

  17. Regine April 25, 2012 at 12:24 AM #

The mission to the moon should have still continued, despite the Apollo 1 disaster. Although they didn’t expect for the danger of the space travel to be on earth, they did know that this mission did face certain dangers: therefore, they should have excepted the fact that it happened, fixed the things that went wrong, and proceeded their mission to the moon.

  18. Tianna V April 25, 2012 at 1:47 AM #

I think that the US should have continued with its mission to the moon. It was what the men who’s lives were lost wanted. It’s what they were aiming to do. The Apollo 1 disaster was an accident that no one expecting. It was a mistake. Mistakes happen all the time. It was a lesson learned.

  19. Berenice Gonzalez April 25, 2012 at 2:07 AM #

In my opinion I think they should have contnued with the mission because in that way they can discover more ways to make it better for future astronauts . Like in hte series we watched in class there were problems with the capsule that they did not even know about so that brought the sad story of 3 men dying.

  20. Toniesha Lighthall April 25, 2012 at 2:32 AM #

The Apollo I disaster was horrific and unexpected. I think that the U.S. was right by postponing any maned trips to outter space, because it gave people time to heal from what happened also it gave people time to research to be safer and to have better communication and a better grasp on what to do if that kind of situation were to happen again. So, no I think that the U.S. should have not have continued it’s mission to the moon, because either way I think that we as the United States still would have been the first to the moon and back.

  21. Tannore ruskamp April 25, 2012 at 2:49 AM #

Yes I think they should have continuned their missions to space because not only would it have lost respect for the U.S but it would have made us look bad and like a bunch of wimps in my book but I could be wrong But it’s not like the guys didn’t know. That they may loose their life’s cause. They knew they might die so I think they should have kept going

  22. Marguerite Jefferson April 25, 2012 at 3:14 AM #

I think they should have continued their mission to the moon. You have to take risks in order to achieve sucess. I think that would have been our chance to say look at us now. But unfortunately they probably thought we were punks 😦

  23. anthonychilds April 25, 2012 at 3:49 AM #

Yes, I think they should have. NASA knew the mistakes that they made & how to make sure that they wouldn’t happen again, so with that said I think it was the right decision to go forward with the US’s mission which was to get to the moon.

    • Abby G May 15, 2012 at 4:02 PM #

I agree. Even though the mission failed, NASA was able to learn from it’s mistakes and fix the issues. Getting to the moon was a priority,so it was good that NASA continued

  24. Bria Cammorto April 25, 2012 at 10:33 PM #

Yes, the USA should have continued it’s mission to the moon because they knew what was the reason behind the explosion was, therefore they could have corrected it. It’s understandable why they wouldn’t want to, but at the same time continuing the mission to the moon would have given us props. We would have been the “macho man” until someone topped us. It would have also made huge historical events (which it later did).

  25. Ryan Whalen May 25, 2012 at 8:30 PM #

Of course the US should of continued with the apollo missions. JFK promised to get to the moon by the end of the decade. Also exploring space resulted in some inventions like the microwave.
