The white mans burden shows it would be the best life if you followed the white way and lived the white style. The U.S used this imply imperialism by getting people to think another way, and they where able to conquer more land. We where also able to expand very quickly because of this.
I feel that “The flag must stay put” represents how high and mighty whites appear themselves to be over the others. Which is why the men are handing over materials to the giant soldier.

I think in this picture it shows when imperlism first started in other colonies. The white burden shows that they wanted these people to think that if you were living life as “white” you would be living the good life. Whites wanted all control, they wanted all the land and did get it.

Also like “The flag must stay put” because in the image they are giving there weapons and the other group is giving up there what looks like a speech as a sign of respect while some look up at him. The White Mans Burden and The flag must “Stay put” both express Americans taking over parts of land and saying that they have to civilize the people in it. And by doing so they take on a burden of having to show them “the way to live” and use that to justify taking over.

The civilized group is suppose to be non-violent (hints: they don’e guns or knives) but rather the “savages” are more violent. The poem portrays people who aren’t white are savages. Not only that, the poem says that even though the Americans think they’re helping them, the foreigners resent the American’s presence. The Cartoon shows this as the foreigners do not look overjoyed to place their guns under the American Flag. Basically, the US used this propaganda to make it seem like the other countries needed their help and they were bettering the other countries.

It seems like this poem could have been intended to be read by people who didn’t agree with imperialism to maybe try and change their mind and realize that the white race is superior. I believe that “The White Man’s Burden” represents that the white men have more power to take over but yet they still try to encourage other races to get where they are. What I mean by saying this is that, I feel in the poem it is trying to say white men still have to carry these races on their backs and hold them acountable for what needs to be done. The white men in placing scrips of paper down are representing how they agree with this power. To the the flag must stay put, i say that the nations that are lined up, are doing so because they dont have a choice in the matter, they are being forced to bide by the united state’s will.

When I compared “The flag must stay put” to the “White man’s burden”, I could quickly see the similarities between the two. In the picture, there was a small group of men who were putting down their guns. These men can only be described as representing the “half devil and half child” in the “White man’s burden”. The white men opposite them represent members of congress, overall men in power, and the large soldier in between both groups represents the enforcer, proud to conquer this race in the name of America. This all ties to the “White man’s burden” due to his need to change the savage world into a more civilized one. A world that fights with the biggest weapon they have; paper. That’s why they (America) put paper down as the other men put guns down. Only when needed does America use physical force.

The more tan figures who are fillipinos are placing guns that signal they are surrendering from the violence that follows imperialism. The connection that i see in the “White man’s burden”, and “The flag must stay put”, was to show that what ever the white men thought was right or what should be done in situations, the other races should follow them too. Thats why i believe the white men in the middle of the picture is bigger than the rest showing that he knows what he is doing, having a confidant face on. On the ,”Flag must stay put”, the colored people on the right, that are giving the white men their guns, shows that they’re on his will. It relates to the qoute “to serve your captives’ need to wait in heavy harness”, they have to fight so they wont be control a way that they don’t want to, or serve others involuntarily, and they might have the right person to help them.
I agree with this because at the time, white people were in charge and told minorities what to do and the white people took care of them. So the minorites had no choice but to give in because rejecting that was socially unapcetable and could of lead to wars.

In the picture, there was a small group of men who were putting down their guns. These men can only be described as representing the “half devil and half child” in the “White man’s burden”. The white men opposite them represent members of congress, overall men in power, and the large soldier in between both groups represents the enforcer, proud to conquer this race in the name of America. This all ties to the “White man’s burden” due to his need to change the savage world into a more civilized one. A world that fights with the biggest weapon they have; paper. That’s why they (America) put paper down as the other men put guns down. Only when needed does America use physical force.
Rahiel Lucas-The flag must stay put is displaying the opposite side of imperialization. The letters the little white men are playing at the at the soldiers feet are letters of unexpantion. The more tan figures who are fillipinos are placing guns that signal they are surrendering from the violence that follows imperialism. The white man’s burden is a theory that states being that white people are the superior race, it is their obligation to nurture, teach and bring up the other races as they steal resources.
Both the “White Man’s Burden” and “Stay Put” portray the White’s a superior race. However I believe that in “Stay put it shows how the whites took over other bodies of land and forced other races to live as the wanted. I also believe that “The White Man’s Burden” represents an excuse for imperialism. The whites say they are helping the other races become more civilized when actually they are taking their land and resources.
You have a good point on seen how the white people might be taking their resources instead of really trying to help them.

The “White man’s burden” and the picture “Flag stays put” both portray that the white man knows the “correct” way of living and can help the other people who are not white. The withe men are proud. The phrase “Take up the White Man’s burden–
Have done with childish days–
The lightly proferred laurel,
The easy, ungrudged praise.
Comes now, to search your manhood”
And the guy in the picture holding the flag both represnt that whire people are better than everyone else.
The connection that i see in the “White man’s burden”, and “The flag must stay put”, was to show that what ever the white men thought was right or what should be done in situations, the other races should follow them too. Thats why i believe the white men in the middle of the picture is bigger than the rest showing that he knows what he is doing, having a confidant face on. On the ,”Flag must stay put”, the colored people on the right, that are giving the white men their guns, shows that they’re on his will. It relates to the qoute “to serve your captives’ need to wait in heavy harness”, they have to fight so they wont be control a way that they don’t want to, or serve others involuntarily, and they might have the right person to help them.
I agree with this because at the time, white people were in charge and told minorities what to do and the white people took care of them. So the minorites had no choice but to give in because rejecting that was socially unapcetable and could of lead to wars.
In the poem “The White man’s burden” it says,” your new-caught, sullen peoples, Half-devil and half-child. That means the white people have to fix the minorites. While in the picture it looks like to minorites are giving into the white man’s power by giving their weapons to keep the peace. I think these things justify imperalism because white people thought that they were helping minorities at the time. The white people thought it was fair that the minorities gave them their land while the white people took care of them. They thought they were doing a good thing.
Helen Adane – I think that the “White Man’s Burden”, and “The Flag Must Stay Put” are very similar because in both the picture and poem they are representing that the white man knows the “right” way of living and everyone else is living wrong and they should follow what the white man is doing. The white man in the middle in “The Flag Must Stay Put” is showing confidence and knowing and acting like he is way better than everyone else and the people at the bottom are just giving in and just excepting the white man. And in the “White Man’s Burden” its says,
“Come now, to search your manhood
Through all those thankless years”
Empling that their life’s were nothing untill they were shown the white man’s way of living.
The White Mans Burden was true because if you stuck to the normal white man life then everything was perfect . And the Flag Must Stay Up is a representation of two different colonies.
I the flag must stay put is shows how white people view themselfs and how they put there selfs over all other races.in the white mans burden they’re basically saying that they have to take care of everyone else and the world needs the white race
In both pictures they show that the white race is better then any other. In teh “Flag mujst stay put” the white soilder is gettting things from two different people. In the “White mans burden” the white man is holding up a lot of wieght on this shoulders. Thats why I think both the pictures show that the whites are better then other races.
I think that the “White Man’s Burden”, and “The Flag Must Stay Put” are really similar. They are both sending the message that whtes are the predominant race over all. “White Man’s Burden”, in mmy eyes, it trying to get everyone to think whites have a huge burden to carry, therefore they are the distinguished race in the World. That we have the right way of living and no one else has it figured out like us. In “The Flag Must Stay Put” also has similarities to :”White Mans’s Burden”, but is also different. This one shows that we are confident and everyone needs to accept our ideas, ways, etc… They really show the same thing; that white people are superlative to anyone else.
